The count of women serving in the Ukrainian army: The Ministry of Defense has announced the number

The total number of women in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is over 62,000.

As of January 2024, there are 45,587 women serving in the Ukrainian army. This is over 2,000 more servicewomen than in October 2023, according to the Military Media Center.

“The number of female servicemembers in the Ukrainian army as of January 2024 is 45,587. This is 2,108 more than in October 2023,” the statement said.

The Military Media Center also noted that the total number of women in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is over 62,000, with 13,487 women having combatant status. Ten years ago, there were 49,000 women in the Ukrainian army, with 16,557 of them being servicewomen.

It is worth reminding that the spokesperson for the Poltava Regional TCC and SP, Major Roman Istomin, explained that the registration of women for military service has nothing to do with mobilization, as it is defined by the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service” since 1992.

Moreover, women subject to military obligations can be mobilized into the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces only when necessary. Volodymyr Fityo, the Head of the Public Relations Service of the Ground Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that this only applies to those who have not yet been registered for military service. According to him, female medics have always been subject to military obligations, so nothing has changed for them.
