President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Admiral Robert Bauer, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, during which he thanked NATO for its support and informed about Ukraine’s urgent defense needs, reports the Presidential Office of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that NATO’s support is crucial for the morale of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, and Ukrainians highly appreciate that they can rely on the Alliance.
“Thank you for your first visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. This is a strong signal of support for our society. The support of NATO and its member states is primarily important for the morale of our troops and civilian Ukrainians. We appreciate that we can count on you,” the Head of State said.
Ukraine’s president informed the Chair of the NATO Military Committee about Ukraine’s urgent defense needs and emphasized the urgent need for additional air defense systems to reliably protect Ukrainians from constant missile and drone attacks.
The Ukrainian President discussed the expectations of the Ukrainian side from this year’s NATO Summit in Washington. He noted that Ukraine expects fair assessments of achievements and decisions from the summit, which can bring Ukraine closer to membership in the Alliance.
“We count on fair assessments of our country’s achievements and decisions of the Washington Summit that will bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Robert Bauer also discussed opportunities to strengthen the Alliance’s coordination role in supporting Ukraine. Ukraine aims to enhance existing defense capabilities and develop military potential in line with NATO standards and interoperability requirements.
